At Severson Dells there were Ruby, & Golden Crown Kinglets- Fox Sparrow, Field Sparrow, Song Sparrow, & Swamp Sparrow. Eastern Meadow Lark, Eastern Towhee, Eastern Bluebirds, Eastern Phoebe. In fluddles along Moody Road, L. Scaup, Common Merganser, Red-heads,Ruddy, Wood Ducks, along Meridian Rd. N Shovelers Coots, Ring Neck, Bufflehead, Blue-wing Teal, Green-Wing Teal, Gadwell. A. White Pelicans, Sandhill Cranes, D.C. Comerants. Shore birds seen were G. Yellowlegs, Wilson’s Snipe.
There are about 50 White Pelicans on Pierce Lake. About a dozen C. Mergansers, only saw 1 Loon. 3 Osprey on the nesting platform. They were working on the nest by I90. L. Scaup on Olson Lake.
Severson Dells Nature Center, &WCFP have set up a great new system of bird feeders out at the center. Come out, & enjoy the winter birds in comfort!
About 2:00 P.M. today, 1-14, I had a nice mixed flock of Snow Buntings, & Lapland Long-Spurs along Kelly Rd, a quarter mile west of Weldon Rd. There were also many Horned Larks along the road sides. Yesterday 1-13 there was a lone Pine Siskin at the feeders at Severson Dells.
A Straight,& I had a few Warblers at Severson Dells F.P. this a.m.- Golden Wing-Tennessee-Chestnut-Sided-Magnolia-Black-Throated Green-Yellow-Throated-Bay Breasted-Black-White-American Red-Start-Common Yellowthroat. Red- Breasted Nuthatch- a lot of the common birds for here this time of year. 4 Green Herons at Nygren .
Ann S. & I found two Trumpeter Swans on a pond along Telegraph Road about 1/4 mile west of Winnebago Road at 4:00 P.M. today. Seems quite early for Winnebago County. Not many shore birds to be found in the county today tho. Usual, Spotted, Solitary, Pectoral’s. No habit. Pec. Wetlands had nothing.
At 12:30 today there was at least 5 C. Loons on Pierce Lake- also, 3 Red- Breasted Mergansers, 4 Buffleheads, 40 Scaup, 6 N. Shovelers. An Osprey was working on the nest plat form overlooking I 90. Also, had my foy Chipping Sparrows.
Sandhill Cranes are back in Pec.- along Telegraph Rd. & Blair Rd. Bluebirds are being seen at Severson Dells F.P.& along Severson Rd. Robins, & Cedar Waxwings seen at Rock Cut S.P.. White-Fronted geese among 100,s of Canada Geese on Oliver Rd.
30species at count- 4-lakes area- 1 Kingfisher, 3Great Blue Herons- 3 Eagles- 1 titmouse-1Purple Finch- 1 Song Sparrow- several Tree Sparrows- Cackling Geese- 2 American Kestrels-3 Red-Tailed Hawks- 1Rough-Legged Hawk.
Today at Pierce Lake had 3Red-Breasted Mergansers- 2 Hooded Mergansers- 1 Common Goldeneye- 1 Commom Loon, not much else of note.
