A Straight,& I had a few Warblers at Severson Dells F.P. this a.m.- Golden Wing-Tennessee-Chestnut-Sided-Magnolia-Black-Throated Green-Yellow-Throated-Bay Breasted-Black-White-American Red-Start-Common Yellowthroat. Red- Breasted Nuthatch- a lot of the common birds for here this time of year. 4 Green Herons at Nygren .
Ann S. & I found two Trumpeter Swans on a pond along Telegraph Road about 1/4 mile west of Winnebago Road at 4:00 P.M. today. Seems quite early for Winnebago County. Not many shore birds to be found in the county today tho. Usual, Spotted, Solitary, Pectoral’s. No habit. Pec. Wetlands had nothing.
At 12:30 today there was at least 5 C. Loons on Pierce Lake- also, 3 Red- Breasted Mergansers, 4 Buffleheads, 40 Scaup, 6 N. Shovelers. An Osprey was working on the nest plat form overlooking I 90. Also, had my foy Chipping Sparrows.
Sandhill Cranes are back in Pec.- along Telegraph Rd. & Blair Rd. Bluebirds are being seen at Severson Dells F.P.& along Severson Rd. Robins, & Cedar Waxwings seen at Rock Cut S.P.. White-Fronted geese among 100,s of Canada Geese on Oliver Rd.
30species at count- 4-lakes area- 1 Kingfisher, 3Great Blue Herons- 3 Eagles- 1 titmouse-1Purple Finch- 1 Song Sparrow- several Tree Sparrows- Cackling Geese- 2 American Kestrels-3 Red-Tailed Hawks- 1Rough-Legged Hawk.
Today at Pierce Lake had 3Red-Breasted Mergansers- 2 Hooded Mergansers- 1 Common Goldeneye- 1 Commom Loon, not much else of note.
Trip to Miss. River-Lost Mound NWR & other Locations- We had about 4 high lighted birds- Ross Goose at Sloan’s Marsh- Peregrine Falcon at Ayers Prairie- Northern Shrike at Lost Mound NWR- Red-Breasted Merganser at Thomson Causeway. Other birds seen were: G.W. Teal- Gad-well- N. Pintail- Ring-necked Northern-Shoveler- Mallard Ducks. Hundreds of Tundra Swans. Also Red-headed Woodpecker- Pileated Woodpecker- Downey Woodpecker- Red-Bellied Woodpecker. Also seen common birds- Robins- Blue Jays-Juncos-W.B. Nut-hatch. Eagles- Red-Tail Hawks-Rough-Legged Hawk. Weather was cool& a little breezy, but, I think a good time was had by all participants, thanks to Ann S great leadership!
Had a few Warblers at Rock Cut S. P. this a.m. Oven Bird-Tennessee-Cape May-Black-Throated Green-Black-Throated Blue-Magnolia-Blackburnian-Nashville-Blackpoll-Redstart-N Parula. Nothing that usual, but, at least a few birds for this Fall.
Shore birds in Winn. Cty on Aug. 7- Oliver Rd-Bairds S.P.-Stilt S.P.PectoralS.P.Least S.P.Wilsons Phalarope,S.B.DowitcherSemi-Palmated Plover. Pec. Rd. still had Black-Belly Plover-Red-Necked Phalarope- L.Yellowlegs-G.Yellowlegs- Sandhill Cranes-Great Egrets. Also ,in Pec. Wetlands, Solitary S.P.- Spotted Sandpipers.
Did not find the Commom Gallinule at Nygren, but, did have a Least Bittern fly by the Observation Deck about 1:oo P.M. today- also family of Wood-Ducks.
